Apprentice HVAC Installer

Position Overview

This is a full-time apprenticeship opportunity for someone eager to launch a long-term career in HVAC Installation. As an apprentice, you’ll work under the guidance of experienced journeymen to learn hands-on skills in the installation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

The ideal candidate should have a basic mechanical understanding, exhibit excellent communication skills and have a keen interest in the field of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. 

You’ll gain valuable shop and field experience while attending related classroom instruction through Chemeketa Community College’s state-registered apprenticeship program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior technicians on installation of heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems in residential settings, with some crossover into light commercial work as needed
  • Work with a small crew on job sites and ensure quality, safety, and efficiency
  • Able to communicate professionally with homeowners and team members
  • Uphold and enforce all safety policies and procedures
  • Assist with keeping job sites clean, organized, and on schedule

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of HVAC install experience 
  • Familiarity with, and ability to read, layout plans, wiring diagrams, equipment specifications, and install guidelines a plus
  • Participate in classroom instruction and on-the-job training per the apprenticeship program
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and a team-first attitude with a strong work ethic
  • Strong customer communication skills, problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from senior technicians
  • Attention to detail and quality craftsmanship
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs., climb ladders, and work in crawl spaces or rooftops

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: The hourly wage is based on meeting on the job (OJT) hours in the Apprenticeship Program. See the Chemeketa Community College’s Apprenticeship Program for more details (rates as of February 1, 2026)
